Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani received Abdullah Nizam, head of the Shiite Scholars Authority in Syria, on Tuesday, according to a statement issued by the media office of the Council Presidency.
The statement stated that al-Sudani affirmed Iraq’s support for the Syrian people, with all their sects and components, and its support for Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the integration of its components. He noted that the meeting reviewed developments in Syria and the current situation there.
The statement explained that the importance of unifying the discourse supporting coexistence and civil peace was emphasized, through the role of clerics, strengthening societal unity, rejecting extremism, and promoting the concept of citizenship to achieve social justice and strengthen the bonds of national unity among the Syrian people, thus enhancing security and stability in the region.
Al-Araji called for unifying religious discourse and strengthening the bonds of national unity in Syria.
Al-Araji reiterated his emphasis on “the importance of unifying discourse through the role of religious scholars and sheikhs, and promoting the concepts of societal cohesion and rejecting extremist rhetoric, which strengthens unity and deprives those who incite sedition.”
The Iraqi National Security Advisor stressed “the need to respect all religions, sects, and communities and to strengthen the bonds of national unity of the Syrian people.”
This visit, the first official political visit by a Shiite leader in Syria to Iraq, came after al-Sudani announced during the Sulaymaniyah Forum that he had extended an invitation to the Syrian President for the transitional period, Ahmed al-Sharaa, to attend a summit. Baghdad.
